The human oceanic civilization, arising when after the Great Cataclysm life on land became increasingly difficult and eventually impossible, had lasted for thousands of years. Life on land had become a very distant memory for the roughly one hundred million humans who were now living in cities in the depths of the planet’s oceans. Given the amenities, comfort, and security which oceanic cities provided to their citizens, few would ever wonder about what human life on land might have been like. But not all was well. The human oceanic civilization had been in decline for centuries. A decline that some were seeking to stop and revert using different means. All of them seemingly required humans to move back to life on land. But this was nothing the average citizen on any oceanic city would have been aware of. Then came the discovery of the fossil of a human skull. It showed that human life on land had never ceased to exist and revealed that another human species had evolved on land. This discovery triggered events which changed the trajectory of human oceanic civilization and of the human civilization their cousin species had built in what they believed to be the only habitable area on land. In the end, this changed not only their future but even more so what they had considered their human history.
